Journeys Board of Directors

Board Officers

Randy Morris, PhD, President Emeritus

Faculty, Liberal Arts Bachelor's Completion Program, Antioch University, Seattle

Randy TN

Randy Morris has been a faculty member in the Liberal Studies Program at Antioch University Seattle since 1987. Prior to that, Randy taught kids, K-12, in Atlanta, Georgia and Hiroshima, Japan for ten years. Currently, he teaches adult classes in dreamwork, archetypal and spiritual psychology, history and philosophy of science, ritual process and ceremonial design. Randy has been doing vision quest work since 1990, and has successfully created and facilitated Journeys' first Ritual Leadership program.

Gary Yonge, President

Construction Project Manager, Seattle

Gary Yonge

Gary Yonge is a long-time resident of the Seattle area. He moved here in 1974, with a BA in Psychology and an open mind to all life’s possibilities. For the last 36 years, Gary has been in the construction industry, both as an employee and owner. He currently works as project manager for a residential remodeling company.

Over the years, Gary has been involved with various forms of spiritual growth, ranging from work with church organizations, to mens groups, to sweat lodge gatherings. Gary's interest in Rite of Passage Journeys was kindled by his son-in-law’s participation in a Journeys Vision Quest, which was an incredible, life-changing experience. For Gary, furthering the work of Journeys is important and fulfilling work. He has served on the board for three years, currently as President, and is also focused on facilities development.

Brian Bansenauer, PhD, Treasurer

Faculty, Cascadia Community College, Bothell, WA

Brian Bansenauer

Dr. Brian Bansenauer is a member of the Songaia Cohousing community, where Journeys hosts its summer basecamp.  Brian joined Journeys Bard in 2012 to continue to deepen the relationship between Songaia and Rite of Passage Journeys.

Brian teaches at Cascadia College near Seattle, and spends his summers hiking and playing in the garden.

Board Members

Nancy Lanphear

Nancy Lanphear has lived in intentional community for 41 years. She and Fred, her husband, along with their children, were voluntary staff of the Ecumenical Institute and the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA), serving in Kenya, India and the USA for 18 years. Working with villagers and local governments in these other countries gave their lives a global perspective — and one full of adventure.

Coming to the Pacific Northwest in 1986, they experienced a culture shock that came as a huge surprise. The Voluntary Simplicity movement was growing, and gave them a way to integrate back into their “own” culture, although an alternative stream of it. Along with twelve other families, including Stan Crow – Journeys longtime director – and his wife Carol, they established the Songaia Cohousing Community in Bothell. Nancy has been a contributor to the Northwest Intentional Communities Association since it began in 1993, supporting Fred’s activities, and then becoming a member of their Board from 2009 - 2016. Nancy also worked with Fred as administrators of The Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for 11 years, yet another intentional community, founded in the workplace.

Nancy has been connected to Rite of Passage Journeys in several ways since its first journey: a 6th grade trip for teens of ICA staff. Journeys summer basecamp has been located on Songaia property since 1987. There Nancy serves as surrogate parent or grandparent for participants who arrive without their family; supports staff with programs, such as sharing time with the young girls as part of an Elder wisdom circle before and after their journey; and now also serves on the Board.
