Annual Campaign, 2012: From Darcy Ottey

"I'm a lot more self-assured. I can do things now I didn't believe I could before. I can hike 12 miles in a day and make my own fire. I've learned to listen and let other people have their say." Darcy Ottey, Age 13.
These are my own earnest words written after spending 24-hours alone at Cape Alava seeking a vision of my future. Last week I returned to that spot and realized that I still draw on the strength and confidence I gained there. That experience is what inspired me to spend the last five years as Executive Director for Journeys; I wanted to ensure that everyone had access to a meaningful and intentional rite of passage.
As an organization, Journeys is the strongest it has ever been, and poised more fully to make a difference in our community than at any time in its history. But the transformative experiences Journeys provides can only occur with your support! It is my sincere hope that this year Journeys' staff and board can focus on programs; rather than struggle to achieve fundraising goals in a down economy.
As I step out of office, it is hard to say goodbye. Journeys has had SUCH an impact on my life, and I continue to be deeply committed to the mission. So I hope you'll indulge me one final heartfelt plea to you to give generously to Journeys this year.
