Scholarship Campaign 2012

Does this sound like many 14-year-olds you know?

"This program is going to stay with me for a very long time - my whole life probably. Through this trip I have given support and accepted it. I know myself better, and my patience has grown by bounds. I know these changes will affect how I live and I look forward to new challenges." Alexa Asmus, Coming of Age for Girls 2008.

Donations, like the one I hope you will make today, are absolutely necessary for extraordinary young participants like Alexa to join us during the summer for an unforgettable experience. Your contribution to the Stan Crow Scholarship Fund assures that all youth who desire my have access to a vital and soul-nourishing experience with Rite of Passage Journeys.

And rest assured, your donation will not go to idle or ungrateful applicants. Our participants and their families work very hard to make a "stretch" contribution of their own. I'll never forget the first day that I met Alexa. It was still months in advance of her first Rite of Passage experience, but both she and her mother were painting a shed to raise her tuition funds.

“I believe it is our responsibility as a society and as a community to make opportunities available for youth who hear 'the call' to embark on a rite of passage experience. Youth who are asking to embark on a challenging adventure with the aim of deepening their connection to themselves, others, and the earth should not be denied of this selfless opportunity. As a guide, for Journeys, I have been awed by the intentionality, integrity, and readiness of the youth who were able to participate on a trip because of the commitment and dedication of their community." Cara Walsh, Mentor on the Coming of Age for Girls 2008.

This appeal is urgent. Right now, financial aid applications are stacking up in anticipation of our April 1st priority deadline. In order to respond to all the families who need our assistance, we need to raise $22,000 by April 15th. That’s right, $22,000 before April 15th! Each and every gift is important, so please make your donation of $5, $50, or $2,640 (the cost for one participant on our 3-week Solo Crossing program) today. Please help us continue our legacy of making our programs available to all families regardless of financial means.
