My Voice is a Broken Guitar

Journeys community member, Benjamin Killian invites us down to the sleepy river for some deep soul fishing in his poem My Voice is a Broken Guitar.

by Benjamin Scott Killian

I know this sorrow, dreamers:
a lonely voice drifts down a sleepy river
fishing for some brilliant thing.

Souls are trapped in stone temples
every way out blocked by starving cats
and cowering dogs.

One by one, withered breaths
fall from the stem
back toward eternity.

'Julio, Julio!'
we Wail your name into the dividing walls
searching for everything that's gone away.

'Joshua, Joshua!'
¡my voice is a broken guitar!
though, I will strum my twisted strings until I find you,

until we can sing our voices hoarse
and weary together the song
that called us down...

...to the riverbank of bones.
