Meet Our New Team

Journeys' staff has grown to four this year, all thanks to your donations and hard work.

Journeys is delighted to introduce you to our administrative staff!  Some folks you know, and some are new.  With an increase to four staff starting in October 2008, we have been able to launch several new programs this year, and more effectively reach out to new participants, deliver strong programs, and keep in better touch with those that have been part of our community for a long time.  Those that may answer your phone call or email throughout the year:

Darcy Ottey, Executive Director

Rite of Passage Journeys has been part of every major transition in Darcy’s life, since the Coming of Age program when she was 13.  She became Executive Director of Journeys in 2006, after serving as a program manager at Outward Bound Wilderness and spending ten years as a guide and instructor for a variety of wilderness programs. She holds an MA in Environment & Community from Antioch University Seattle. Darcy recalls her early experiences with Journeys as the time when her passion for the natural world and community coalesced. During her past two years as Director for Journeys, Darcy has been continually inspired by the community at Journeys, in awe of the strength of our support, and touched by our unique curriculum.

Emily Pease - Program Director/ Marketing Director

Emily Pease is please to be continuing at Rite of Passage Journeys is a permanent position!  Emily completed two years of AmeriCorps, the first with community-based non-profit Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) and the second with Journeys, where she designed and implemented the Healthy Youth Passages program in schools around the Northwest. This year  Emily has stepped into a director role and is excited for all the new opportunities this brings. Emily is a Wilderness First Responder with extensive experience in leadership and youth mentorship. She led the Call to Adventure, Coming of Age for Girls and Journeys 3 this past summer. Emily has a  Bachelor of Fine Arts degree she received at Iowa State University (which is very useful!) and her future goals are to go to a graduate program in Outdoor and Environmental Education.

Linda Ottey, Office Coordinator

Linda Ottey joined the Journeys administrative team in September 2007, rescuing us from the chaos of administration!  She has 12 years of prior office experience at a Seattle law firm, before enjoying being a stay-at-home mom to Zach (age 14), and Emma (age 6).  Some of her strengths are working well under pressure, organization, and attention to detail.  Linda is excited to be at Journeys, and welcomes your phone calls and emails.  In her spare time, she attends her children’s many sporting events, entertains good friends, sews, and is learning to belly dance.

Tara Nichol, Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator

Tara is the AmeriCorps Volunteer for the year 2008-2009. She has a background in Environmental Education working with youth and adults through sailing, organic farming, rock climbing and backpacking. She has a degree in Adventure Education from Fairhaven College in Bellingham, WA. She is a Wilderness First Responder and has had various other trainings in youth development. Tara loves connecting with nature, growing her own food and is interested in exploring holistic ways of working with youth and adults in the outdoors.  She is excited to learn and grow this year with Rites of Passage Journeys!
