Friday 3/22, 7-9pm • Speaking Engagement: Befriending Our Elder Years

What does it mean to become an “elder” – a respected, integral member of your community, sharing your life experience and considering your legacy? In this 2-hour introductory presentation, we explore the path to elderhood and renew our sense of optimism. Join us for this experiential exploration of the gifts of elderhood!

$10 - $25, sliding scale

Location: Sunset Hill Community Center, 3003 NW 66th St, Seattle, WA 98117 (Ballard)

Saturday 3/23, 10am-5pm • Workshop: Conscious Eldering in the Time of the Great Turning

As we approach the second half of life, the question "What gives our life meaning?" re-emerges, most especially as we also begin to contemplate the legacy that we are leaving for future generations in a time of rapid cultural change.

In this experiential workshop, based on the work of Joanna Macy and Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, we will uncover the unique gifts that our years of life experience provide as we journey through this process of becoming elders in a complex world. We will explore the idea of the Great Turning, recognizing that old systems and institutions are breaking down and that new possibilities for a sustainable future are emerging.  It is more important than ever that we seek to reclaim our role as elders, learning to speak for the welfare of our grandchildren and all of Life.

We invite you to take this opportunity within a supportive and engaging environment to decide how you want to go forth into this time of your life, creating a just and thriving future for all.

$100 - $175, sliding scale (financial assistance is available)

Location: Sunset Hill Community Center, 3003 NW 66th St, Seattle, WA 98117 (Ballard)

Sunday 3/24, 1-4pm • Gathering: A Networking/Council Circle for Elder Activists

How do we bring our identities as elders to our communities in order to create a flourishing future for all?  Our intention for this gathering is to provide a supportive environment to express our love for Life herself, share our concerns as elders for this world, and create a supportive network of elder activists, individuals and groups, within the Seattle area. We want to seed new ideas for engagement and activism, so as to create the most beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

By donation at the door
