“Grief is subversive, undermining the quiet agreement to behave and be in control of our emotions. It is an act of protest that declares our refusal to live numb and small. There is something feral about grief, something essentially outside the ordained and sanctioned behaviors of our culture. Contrary to our fears, grief is suffused with life-force... It is truly an emotion that rises from the soul.”

Francis Weller

11/29: If you are considering coming on Saturday, please read the welcome letter for some important logistics!

In these quickly-changing, often dire-seeming times, there is much to grieve, both personally and collectively. But for many of us, it is difficult to find the time and space to fully enter and express our grief – and thereby allow our joy and gratitude to flow more freely as well.

We warmly invite you to join us on a December Saturday in Seattle. Together we'll create a sacred song circle to heal and transform grief in a safe communal context. Led by song elder Laurence Cole and rite of passage guide Rob Miller, this will be a heart- and soul-opening space to express the many faces of grief, and allow joy to emerge.

Cost: $40 - $160 sliding scale. We believe deeply in the importance of grieving well and wish for this important work to be available to all. Putting on a ceremony of this type requires a surprisingly large output of time, effort, and energy from our organizers and facilitators. In an effort to balance accessibility with fair pay we are offering a wide sliding scale for this event. We ask you to please give generously based on your capacity. We estimate that $80 per person will meet our budgetary needs for this event.

Location: The Social Hall at the University Christian Church (4731 15th ave NE, Seattle). A private, underground space, appropriate for the season, that we will make beautiful with our altar, candles, grief, and joy.
