This two-day training provides the conceptual framework and practical tools to bring rites of passage into your own community.
 
Times of transition are invariably times of confusion. Throughout history, people have developed rituals and ceremonies to help them make sense of this confusion accompanying change in position, circumstances, and relationships.

The transition from one life stage to another is no different. Particularly important and precarious is the transition from childhood to adulthood (and through adolescence). As young people look to the adults in their community to tell them what it means to grow up, consciously creating initiatory experiences is absolutely essential for both the health and well-being of the individual and the strength and vitality of the culture. And yet, meaningful rite of passage experiences are almost absent from American society.

For the past 15 years, Journeys has drawn upon more than 40 years of experience to teach dozens of schools, organization, churches and communities how to create rites of passage for their youth. At the heart of our training program is the Coming of Age Leader’s Training.

Join us as we explore coming of age program design, and examine in-depth critical pieces of contemporary rite of passage programs: adult mentorship, the teaching power of nature, and the artisanship of ritual. Each day provides theoretical models, practical examples from our experience and a chance to apply the learning to your unique situation.

Journeys offers this series to the public at least once per year. Alternatively, a school, church or other organization can choose to co-sponsor the training at their location (please refer to our custom programs webpage). In this case, Journeys will schedule to fit your needs and will collaborate with you in-house leadership. We work in this way with groups across North America.

The trainers of this series are our most qualified senior staff; possessing the depth and breath of experience that allow them to explore, strategize and problem solve in service to the unique needs of each trainee.
