In this workshop, we’ll explore our own personal symbology using somatics, nature exploration, collage and block printing to create our own oracle cards infused with deep, personal meaning. Each participant will create a hand made, hard copy of their card using a mix of linocut printing, collage and mixed media. We’ll then make copies of each card so that every participant walks away with a custom set of oracle cards, designed collaboratively as a group. This workshop is designed to be accessible to those who are new to block printing and/or somatics as well as those with experience in each medium.

Facilitated by somatics teacher and block printing artist, West Liberty (they/them), this workshop is based on an ongoing process of somatic and artistic exploration that they have been engaged in for the past half-decade. The process facilitates a deep conversation with the self and spirit to investigate each individual’s relationship to symbol, story & image.

Rather than looking outside the self for definitions of symbols, images and messages, this process asks participants to excavate their own relationship to these and create definitions that include their personal histories, lived experiences, and relationship to spirit.

We’ll start our day together by exploring meaning making and symbology using somatic exercises and nature exploration. We’ll have access to a small remnant forest here on the land at Rite of Passage Journeys basecamp, where we will have the opportunity to find and be found by animals, plants, stones, soil, water and other elements of the natural world that can assist us as we translate our meaning and stories into visual images.

Then we’ll allow space and time for an emergent process of discovering what or who wants to be translated through the hands onto the page. West will give a lesson on the block printing process and be available to assist those who are new to block printing. Once we’ve each created our cards, we’ll make copies and ensure each participant walks away with one of each beautiful image created by our group.
